Giants’ John Harbaugh Confident About Jaxson Dart Protecting Himself

John Harbaugh Sees Lamar Jackson-Like Versatility in Giants QB Jaxson Dart

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh believes quarterback Jaxson Dart possesses the versatility needed to thrive in multiple offensive systems, drawing comparisons to two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

Speaking on The Domonique Foxworth Show, Harbaugh explained that Dart’s ability to operate in both traditional and modern offensive schemes played a major role in his vision for the Giants’ offense.

According to Harbaugh, Dart is capable of leading a power-running attack while also executing shotgun, pistol, run-pass option (RPO), and quarterback-designed run concepts similar to those used during Harbaugh’s successful tenure with Jackson in Baltimore.

The veteran coach emphasized that a flexible offensive system begins with the quarterback, and he believes Dart has the athleticism and football intelligence to execute a wide range of plays. That versatility, Harbaugh noted, creates additional challenges for opposing defenses by forcing them to prepare for multiple offensive styles.

Dart showcased his mobility throughout his rookie campaign, making plays with both his arm and his legs during 12 starts. While his running ability energized the Giants’ offense, it also exposed him to several hard hits. He battled through an ankle injury and missed two games after sustaining a concussion, raising questions about his long-term durability.

Harbaugh isn’t overly concerned about those issues, pointing to similar criticism Lamar Jackson faced early in his NFL career. He expressed confidence that Dart will learn when to protect himself without sacrificing the aggressive style that makes him an effective dual-threat quarterback.

The Giants also expect improvements along the offensive line and a stronger rushing attack to reduce the pressure on Dart entering his second NFL season. Even so, Harbaugh believes his quarterback’s mobility will remain an important part of the offense, provided he continues to develop better decision-making when scrambling and avoids unnecessary contact.

As Dart enters Year 2, the Giants hope his continued growth as both a passer and runner will help elevate the offense while keeping him healthy throughout the season.
