“A Farewell”: Roger Daltrey Says His New Solo Tour Could “Possibly” Be His Last

Roger Daltrey has announced a new run of U.S. solo dates for late summer 2026, and he is openly hinting that it could be his last. The Who’s longtime frontman has titled the trek “A Great Night Out!”, calling it a final-style celebration of his solo work, Who classics, and a few surprises. The tour begins August 23, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona, and runs through September 29, 2026, in Medford, Massachusetts. Tickets go on sale May 15, with presales starting May 13.

The official Who announcement says the tour will mark Daltrey’s return after his well-received 2024 Semi-Acoustic Tour and after The Who’s farewell run in North America. The band says the 2026 shows will feature Daltrey’s “captivating solo work, Who classics, and surprises,” backed by the same nine-piece lineup he used on his 2024 dates. That group includes Simon Townshend, Billy Nicholls, Jody Linscott, Doug Boyle, John Hogg, Katie Jacoby, Steve Weston, Geraint Watkins, and Scott Devours.

Daltrey’s own comments make the retirement angle impossible to ignore. He said, “Well it’s one more for the road,” and explained that after The Who’s final U.S. tour, it may be time for him “as a solo artist to possibly do the same.” He also said that after touring for 17 years with different bands of musicians, “a less grueling life becomes more attractive,” though he stopped short of making anything definitive.

He also framed the new tour as a more flexible, stripped-down musical outing. Daltrey said he will be “off the backing tracks” and will keep searching for “different soundscapes” for the songs, adding that the idea is simply to have “a great night out.” The Who’s announcement says the 2026 shows will mix solo material, reimagined covers, and rarer Who songs, with the set built to show off his voice and storytelling rather than just the biggest hits.

The dates are spread across theaters, casinos, and performing arts centers, with multiple stops in Las Vegas and major shows in Nashville, New York, Washington, D.C., and Boston area venues. Highlights include The Town Hall in New York on September 27 and the closing night at Chevalier Theatre in Medford on September 29. The Who’s site also notes that VIP packages will be available and that some links go live on May 13, with one date, the Santa Rosa show, not on sale until May 22.

The timing is notable because The Who also have a new live release on the way, Live at Eden Project, arriving May 29, 2026. That project, along with the farewell-tour language around his band work, makes Daltrey’s solo run feel like part of a larger closing chapter rather than just another set of dates.

Here is the full tour schedule announced for “A Great Night Out!”:

  • August 23 — Mesa, AZ
  • August 24 — Highland, CA
  • August 26 — Las Vegas, NV

At 2026’s midpoint, Daltrey is sounding reflective but not fully finished. The message is clear enough: this tour is being presented as a special late-career run, and he is leaving room for it to be his final solo U.S. chapter.
