Alex Van Halen has shared an emotional piece of music, marking the last song he and his late brother, Eddie Van Halen, ever wrote together. The song, titled “Unfinished“, subtitled “Between Us Two“, accompanies Alex’s newly released memoir Brothers, featured in the audiobook version.

Contrary to what fans might expect, “Unfinished” isn’t a hidden live track or an obscure deep cut. Instead, it’s a powerful six-minute instrumental that beautifully showcases the musical synergy between the Van Halen brothers. The track highlights Eddie’s legendary guitar work, accompanied by Alex’s commanding drumming.

True to Eddie’s humble spirit, the song doesn’t flaunt or overstate his incredible talent. It subtly captures his artistry, with each note exuding a quiet strength, perfectly blending technical brilliance and emotional depth.

A few weeks before Brothers was officially released, Alex offered fans a glimpse into the deep connection he shared with Eddie. In a heartfelt audio excerpt, Alex reflected on what made Eddie’s playing truly special. He explained that it wasn’t just Eddie’s impressive guitar licks but the way he evolved them mid-performance:

“It’s the stuff in between the licks that gets me. It’s so particular, such a distinctive way of playing you had, and then within seconds, you’ve already changed the lick.”

He continued, praising Eddie’s instinctive approach to his craft: “You’ve let it evolve ever so slightly in the most interesting way, and you weren’t even aware of it half the time. Music just came through you.”

Though “Unfinished” stands as a final testament to their shared creativity, the song reflects more than just Eddie’s virtuosity. It embodies the unspoken connection between two brothers who redefined rock music together, offering fans a fitting tribute to their legacy.
