Arnel Pineda Reveals He Wanted Out of Journey Before the Farewell Tour Began

Arnel Pineda has revealed that he nearly stepped away from Journey’s farewell tour before it even began.

In a recent interview, the longtime frontman admitted he tried to withdraw from the band’s final trek more than once. His hesitation came from a combination of personal struggles and physical challenges that made the demanding schedule feel overwhelming.

Pineda explained that he first raised concerns with the band back in 2024, when discussions about a possible farewell tour were beginning. At the time, he was already dealing with serious personal issues and worried about whether he could handle a long tour. He said he asked the group to keep him informed about any plans because his situation at home was becoming increasingly difficult.

The singer also admitted he was frustrated with how the touring schedule eventually came together. Cold weather and the physical strain of travel had begun affecting his voice, which made performing night after night even more difficult. He said he reached out to his bandmates by email to explain how unhappy he was with the arrangement and to ask for changes. According to Pineda, those messages never received a response.

At one point, the vocalist even told the band he wanted to retire from the group because the pressure of his personal situation was taking an emotional toll. However, the silence from the rest of the band left him feeling as if the decision had already been made for him.

Despite those challenges, Pineda ultimately remained committed to the band and continues to front Journey during the farewell run. He acknowledged that his desire to step away largely stemmed from the emotional strain of his divorce and the impact it had on his mental health. The singer said he wanted to focus on repairing his family life and taking care of himself during a difficult period.

Still, he emphasized that his hesitation was never about resentment toward the band or touring itself. Instead, he compared his situation to former Journey frontman Steve Perry, who famously struggled with health issues during his time with the group. In Pineda’s case, the challenge was deeply personal rather than physical.

Journey’s farewell run, titled “The Final Frontier Tour,” launched in early 2026 and is scheduled to travel across North America with dozens of shows celebrating the band’s decades-long career.

For Pineda, the tour represents both a demanding commitment and an emotional milestone. Even after contemplating leaving, he has chosen to finish the journey with the band that discovered him online nearly two decades ago and brought him onto one of rock’s biggest stages.
