Billy Idol Says He’s ‘Totally Blown away” by Long-Awaited Rock Hall Honor

Billy Idol has reacted with clear excitement and humility after being named as part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2026, marking a major milestone in his decades-long career.

The British punk-rock icon is among this year’s inductees alongside names such as Oasis, Iron Maiden, Phil Collins, Sade, Wu-Tang Clan, and Joy Division/New Order — one of the most diverse classes in recent Hall history.

For Idol, the recognition is especially significant as it follows multiple nominations and years of waiting for confirmation. In previous interviews around the nomination period, he admitted that induction is never guaranteed, saying it’s “a process” and not something any artist should expect automatically.

When reflecting on the honor, Idol expressed genuine appreciation rather than frustration about the wait. He said it felt “fantastic” and described it as a “great honor” simply to be included among such a wide range of influential artists on the ballot.

He also pointed out that being considered alongside legends from different eras puts things into perspective, noting that many deserving artists still have not been inducted yet, which makes the recognition even more meaningful rather than competitive.

Idol’s reaction reflects a long career that began in the UK punk scene with Generation X before evolving into global solo success with hits like “White Wedding,” “Rebel Yell,” and “Eyes Without a Face.” His continued relevance over five decades is part of what made his inclusion in the Hall of Fame class widely expected by fans.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026 induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 in Los Angeles, where Idol will officially take his place among music’s most influential names.

For an artist who once helped define the look and attitude of punk-influenced rock in the 1980s, the induction serves as long-awaited recognition of a career that never really left the spotlight — it just kept evolving.
