Dave Mustaine Says a Former Bandmate’s Behavior Is Blocking a Final Megadeth Reunion

Dave Mustaine, co-founder and longtime frontman of Megadeth, recently stated that ongoing personal issues with one ex-member are the main reason the band’s long-talked-about final concert can’t happen — at least not yet.

Mustaine explained that while many fans and insiders hope for a “last show” featuring the classic lineup, there’s one former member whose behavior he feels is “unacceptable for a reunion.” According to Mustaine, the issues are serious enough that they make it impossible to plan or commit to a final concert date.

He emphasized that this isn’t about music, nostalgia, or demand — the band still has the song catalog, the fans, and the desire. The problem, as he sees it, is simply trust and respect: “I don’t have faith that this person can behave appropriately,” Mustaine said. He added that holding a farewell concert under those circumstances would betray the values of the band and the genuineness of the moment.

Because of that stance, any public talk about a “farewell tour” or “last ever show” remains on hold. Mustaine made it clear that as long as that unresolved behavior continues, Megadeth won’t move forward with final-show plans. He also noted that while relationships can change over time, until there’s real accountability, “I don’t see how this ends with what people want.”

In closing, Mustaine said the legacy of Megadeth — the music, the fans, the history — deserves better than a disjointed farewell. “If we can’t do it right, we won’t do it at all.”
