KISS’s classic music video for “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” has now officially exceeded one billion views on YouTube, marking a major milestone for one of the band’s most enduring songs. The rock veterans announced the achievement on social media, celebrating the track’s continued popularity decades after its original release.

The song first appeared on KISS’s 1979 album Dynasty and was co-written by Paul Stanley, Desmond Child and Vini Poncia, representing a stylistic shift for the band with its disco-influenced beat and catchy chorus. At the time of its release, the single became KISS’s second gold-certified hit in the U.S. and reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also charting strongly internationally.

In their announcement, the band wrote, “The numbers speak for themselves. This one still dominates. IWMFLY baby!!” — a reference to the song’s enduring appeal and its place in KISS’s live repertoire.

The milestone also caps a broader digital resurgence for the song. In July 2024, “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” became the first KISS track to surpass one billion streams on Spotify, highlighting its multigenerational reach across platforms and formats.

While some fans originally criticized the track for its departure from the band’s harder rock roots, its lasting popularity — now affirmed by YouTube’s billions club — underscores how songs once controversial can go on to define an artist’s legacy in unexpected ways.
