Krist Novoselic Reveals The Band Name For Paul McCartney And Nirvana Collab

Krist Novoselic

Krist Novoselic, the bassist for Nirvana, recently spoke with AXS TV about the moniker he had in mind for the band’s collaboration with Paul McCartney. During the conversation, the bassist was asked what it was like to hang out and jam with McCartney. He revealed the two band names, rejecting one, and said:

“Yeah, Paul is just so amazing, he’s still making great music, and when I [was] like, ‘What do we call this band?’, somebody came up, some fan, with the word ‘Sirvana’ and I was just like, ‘Well I wanna call it ‘Krist Novoselic With Paul McCartney And Friends.'”

He added:

“Well, they weren’t into that, so I was like, ‘Alright, I’ll just go with ‘Sirvana.'”

When McCartney first got the chance to jam with Novoselic and Dave Grohl, he had no idea he was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion since he couldn’t recognize the members. Grohl informed McCartney that he would have ‘a couple of friends coming along to the studio,’ who turned out to be Pat Smear and Novoselic. McCartney explained in an interview:

“Playing with these men seemed magical to me. To be honest, I was unsure who they were. … Then, during the session, I heard them say, ‘Wow, we haven’t played that since Nirvana.’ So I found myself in the thick of a Nirvana reunion, which made me very pleased.

Nirvana’s remaining members joined Paul McCartney in 2012 for 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief. During the performance, they played a new song called ‘Cut Me Some Slack.’ The two, together with McCartney, recorded the song in 2013. On July 19, of the same year, ‘Sirvana‘ performed in Seattle again.
