Metallica Fans Banned for Life After Tower-Climbing Stunt in Perth

Two Metallica fans who attempted a dangerous stunt during the band’s Perth concert on November 1, 2025 have been banned for life from Optus Stadium. The incident unfolded midway through Metallica’s M72 World Tour performance, when 20-year-old Beau William Loch Rollings and 23-year-old Rory Hugh Culbert broke through a fenced security barrier and scaled a major speaker tower as the band played below.

The climb took place around 10:30 PM. Reports indicate the pair ascended somewhere between 10 and 50 meters and remained perched on the structure for approximately 20 minutes. Security could not reach them without risking their own safety, so authorities waited until the two eventually climbed down on their own. They were immediately arrested.

Both men later pleaded guilty to trespassing. Their phones, believed to contain footage of the stunt, were seized as part of the investigation. Magistrate Ruth Dineen called the act “incredibly stupid” and warned that it was “a good way to ruin your night out.” Their defense argued it was simply “stupid behaviour,” but the court was unmoved.

Along with lifetime bans from the stadium, financial penalties followed. Rollings was fined AUD 1,000 and ordered to pay AUD 308.80 in court costs; Culbert received an equivalent punishment. A police filing noted that Rollings had been drinking before the climb, while both men offered “no explanation” for why they did it.

Metallica continued their show uninterrupted and delivered a full two-hour set of hits spanning their career. But for Rollings and Culbert, what began as a rush for attention ended in criminal charges, heavy fines, public embarrassment, and a permanent lockout from one of Australia’s major concert venues.
