Mike Mangini spoke positively about his departure from Dream Theatre in an interview with Brazil’s Ibagenscast, expressing gratitude for the experiences and accomplishments he gained during his 13-year tenure. He reflected on his contributions, particularly to the Grammy-winning song ‘The Alien’, and expressed satisfaction with his journey, comparing it to a rewarding surfing experience.

Mike Mangini also spoke candidly about his departure on the November 1 episode of ‘Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk‘. He viewed the return of original drummer Mike Portnoy as a natural transition, seeing it as an original member reuniting with the band. This perspective made it easier for him to accept the change and focus on his future projects.

John Petrucci, another Dream Theatre member, also praised Mangini’s contributions. In a social media post, Petrucci praised Mangini’s exceptional drumming abilities and recognised the important moments and successes they shared, including their first Grammy win. He wished Mike Mangini success in his future musical endeavours, emphasising the former bandmates’ mutual respect and admiration.
