After months of uncertainty following the cancellation of a major European and UK tour, Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts have confirmed their return to the live stage later this year.
The legendary rocker and his current band will perform at Farm Aid 2026 on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This will mark the group’s first full-band performance of 2026.
The stacked Farm Aid bill also features Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Turnpike Troubadours, Lukas Nelson, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs, Jesse Welles, Sierra Ferrell, Mon Rovîa, I’m With Her, Amythyst Kiah, Lily Meola, and Chris Pierce.
Young recently appeared solo at a benefit concert in Canada in May 2026, but this Farm Aid performance will be the first time he takes the stage with The Chrome Hearts since the tour cancellation.
Why the Previous Tour Was Axed
In February 2026, Neil Young shocked fans by canceling his extensive summer plans across the UK and Europe, which included high-profile dates at the Eden Project in Cornwall, Heaton Park in Manchester, Blenheim Palace, and the inaugural State Fayre in Essex, plus shows in France, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy.
At the time, Young told fans:
“I’m sorry to let you down, but this is not the time.”
In a later update, he explained the decision more personally:
“I just needed a break… I’m listening to my body.”
New Music on the Way
Alongside the live return, Young confirmed in April 2026 that a brand new studio album with producer Rick Rubin is complete. The record features a unique mix of brand-new songs and rediscovered material from his very first band in the early 1960s.
Young shared:
“We were then out of songs. We needed more. The next morning I had a song going through my head and I was playing it. I checked it out in the archives and found it was from 1963, unreleased.”
He continued:
“There were more. I found three others with it… also unreleased! Three 60-year-old songs and five brand new ones! We finished mixing and assembling one month later on the next full moon… April 1st. It was fast.”
No official release date has been announced yet.
This Farm Aid appearance feels like a meaningful and low-pressure way for Neil Young to ease back into performing with The Chrome Hearts after prioritizing his health and well-being. Farm Aid has always been a cause close to Young’s heart, making it the perfect setting for his return. Fans can expect a mix of classics and possibly new material as the band continues to build momentum for whatever comes next.
