A tragic scene unfolded outside Phish’s Sept. 19, 2025 concert at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, where one person was killed and two others were injured in a stabbing during the band’s Summer Tour stop. Hampton Police confirmed they were called to the 1000 block of Coliseum Drive just after 9:30 p.m. and discovered two men suffering from laceration injuries, one of them life-threatening. “Preliminary investigation revealed that an argument had taken place among several individuals, which escalated into a physical altercation,” said Cpl. Shaun Stalnaker of Hampton Police. A third victim later arrived at a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. One of the initial victims was transported to the hospital but died from their injuries.
The suspect fled the scene but has since been identified. Authorities emphasized that all parties involved are now known and described the stabbing as “an isolated incident.” In response, Phish issued a statement: “During last night’s show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum. There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured. We don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police … but what we do know is upsetting enough. We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected.”
Despite the shocking news, Phish went on to complete their full 19-song set that night and returned to the venue the following evening without further incident. Detectives from the Hampton Police Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate, urging anyone with information to come forward.
