The United States is gearing up for its landmark Semiquincentennial, and the nation’s capital is hosting a massive, multi-genre music and cultural festival to celebrate. Poison frontman Bret Michaels is among a highly eclectic lineup of legendary performers set to take part in the upcoming Great American State Fair, a major centerpiece of the summer’s Freedom 250 celebrations.

Spanning a historic 16-day stretch from June 25 through July 10, 2026, the grand-scale event will take over the National Mall, transforming the massive green space between the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. Designed to mirror the grandeur of a classic World’s Fair, the celebration is expected to shine a bright spotlight on all 56 U.S. states and territories. Alongside a dense schedule of live music, attendees can expect traditional fair attractions, including a massive 110-foot Ferris wheel and the newly refurbished Smithsonian National Carousel.

Music fans will be treated to a heavy dose of nostalgia, with organizers pulling talent from virtually every corner of the industry. The initial music roster includes country powerhouse Martina McBride, hip-hop hitmaker Flo Rida, funk legends The Commodores, Morris Day & The Time, as well as throwback pop and rap staples like Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Young MC, and C+C Music Factory. Additional acts are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Each day of the 16-day fair will lock into a specific theme detailing the foundational pillars of the country. Flo Rida will take center stage on Thursday, July 2, to anchor the “Horsepower of America” day, celebrating the muscle, engineering, and craftsmanship of the open road.

Bret Michaels will follow the next day, headlining on Friday, July 3, for the “Wings of Freedom” showcase. Sharing the July 3 billing with Michaels will be an impressive military ensemble lineup, including the U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, the Airmen of Note Jazz Ensemble, and Army Downrange Rock.

For Michaels, performing at the foot of the Capitol holds immense personal and spiritual significance. The rock icon issued an emotional dedication ahead of the event, honoring his family’s deep ties to the United States Armed Forces.

“As the son of a veteran, and to all those in my family who served and continue to serve — from my Uncle Nick Sychak, who made the ultimate sacrifice in combat during WWII, to my cousin Bob, who received two Purple Hearts in Vietnam, and to all our veterans — on behalf of my family and myself, I dedicate this day,” Michaels expressed. “To those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we are afforded, for the right of opinions, and the awesomeness of being able to honor, remember and celebrate a day like today thank you. Have an incredible day, my friends.”

The festival will lead directly into a monumental Independence Day blowout on Saturday, July 4, featuring a breathtaking display of patriotism, live performances, and a massive fireworks show over the Washington Monument.

While admission to the Great American State Fair is entirely free to the public, organizers note that anyone planning to attend the live concerts must register for tickets online beforehand. Fans can secure their entry by visiting the official Great American State Fair website.
