Tom Morello Recruits Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters & Massive All-Star Lineup For ‘Power To The People’ Festival

In a massive live announcement that shook Washington D.C., iconic guitarist and activist Tom Morello has officially unveiled the inaugural Power to the People Festival. Scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, the one-day event will take over the historic Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, bringing together a historic, multi-generational roster of rock, hip-hop, and punk legends to champion civic engagement just one month ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

The blockbuster announcement dropped directly from the stage at Nationals Park on Wednesday, May 27, where Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were closing out their politically charged Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour—a tour featuring Morello as a special guest guitarist each night. Before introducing the festival, Springsteen delivered an impassioned address to the D.C. crowd, framing the performance “in celebration and defense of the American ideals and values that have sustained our country for 250 years” while invoking the “righteous power of art, of music, of rock and roll in these troubled times.”

“Our democracy, our constitution, our rule of law are being challenged right now,” Springsteen warned the audience, urging the crowd to choose “hope over fear, democracy over authoritarianism, the rule of law over lawlessness, ethics over unbridled corruption, resistance over complacency, truth over lies, unity over division.”

Curated entirely by Morello, the Power to the People Festival is billed as a “non-partisan celebration of peace, justice, solidarity, music, and community action.” The curated lineup promises rare, intimate, and highly collaborative sets from an extraordinary bill that includes Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez, Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Cypress Hill, Killer Mike, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Taylor Momsen (The Pretty Reckless), Matt Cameron, The Linda Lindas, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, grandson, and The Neighborhood Kids. Additionally, actor-musician Jack Black will lead a special collective featuring Roman Morello, Revel Ian, Yoyoka Soma, and Hugo Weiss, while acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey will spin a specialized DJ set.

In a formal statement launching the festival, Morello made the event’s core mission crystal clear:

“The Power To The People festival is about freedom, justice, equality and rock and roll,” Morello stated. “It’s about the power everyday human beings have when they come together through music, art, community, and action. We’re honored to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity, and hope.”

In a subsequent interview with The Washington Post, Morello expanded on the urgency behind the festival’s creation. “The mantra of the show is a very clear one,” Morello explained. “It is a show about peace, love, justice and music.”

Morello also revealed that the cultural climate has reached a boiling point, noting that several artists who were initially on the fence felt an absolute urgency to sign onto the bill following the tragic January incident in Minneapolis where federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents killed protesters Renée Good and Alex Pretti.

“There is a palpable feeling that it is not just our country that is at stake, not just democracy that is at stake, but that people’s families, friends and neighbors are in real danger from the rising tide of fascism,” Morello asserted.

Beyond the main stages, the festival grounds will house a specialized “Freedom Village,” an immersive, interactive space designed to highlight direct opportunities for grassroots organizing, mutual aid, education, and social impact initiatives. Organizers confirmed that a portion of standard ticket proceeds, alongside 100% of the net proceeds from all VIP ticket packages, will be directly donated to VoteRiders and HeadCount—two non-profit organizations dedicated to assisting citizens with navigating the voter registration and identification process in the United States. HeadCount representatives will also be stationed live on-site to help attendees register to vote.
