Radiohead fans, brace yourselves. It looks like the iconic band is sparking up some long-overdue activity.
After years of side projects and solo ventures, bassist Colin Greenwood has confirmed that the band reunited for rehearsals just two months ago in London. This exciting news has fans speculating about what’s next for the legendary group, especially since their last album A Moon Shaped Pool dropped back in 2016.
Greenwood spilled the details during an interview at Mexico’s Hay Festival Querétaro, where he was promoting the new Radiohead photo book How To Disappear. “We did some rehearsals about two months ago in London,” Greenwood shared. “We played some of the old songs, and it was just really fun. I had a great time.”
This nugget of information follows a mysterious tweet from producer Nigel Godrich, which briefly featured a radio emoji, a head emoji, and a question mark—before it was swiftly deleted. Whether it was an innocent tweet or a cryptic hint about new music, it has fueled the fire of speculation among fans.
The reunion may not signal an immediate return to the stage or new music just yet, but it’s the most concrete sign of life from the band since their 2018 tour ended. Greenwood himself is gearing up to tour with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, filling in for Martyn Casey, so Radiohead’s next big move remains unclear.
Adding to the excitement, Radiohead’s drummer Phil Selway hinted last year that a reunion might be on the cards. “There’s something about our creative relationship,” he noted, “you can’t find it anywhere else.” While he didn’t spill too many details, he hinted that the group was circling back to their unique chemistry.
Although the other members are still deeply engaged in personal projects—Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have been fully immersed in their band The Smile, Ed O’Brien released his solo album Earth, and Selway dropped Strange Dance—this rehearsal gives hope that Radiohead isn’t done yet.
Fans will have to keep their ears to the ground for more updates, but one thing’s for sure: Radiohead’s recent rehearsal has reignited excitement, and we’ll be watching closely for whatever comes next.
