Jack Osbourne says the long-discussed biopic about Ozzy Osbourne is still very much alive, even if the release date may be further away than some fans hoped. Speaking during a livestream on May 12, 2026, Jack said the script is finished, the project is actively moving ahead, and the film “will absolutely happen,” though he now thinks it will likely arrive in 2028.
Jack was direct about where things stand: “I can tell you this: we are moving ahead,” he said, adding, “I was on calls today about it. The script is right there. We are good. This movie will absolutely happen.” He then tempered expectations by saying, “Realistically – I mean, look, we’re already halfway through ’26 – it probably won’t come out until ’28. But you never know.”
He also said the team is now looking for a director, which means the film is still in the development stage rather than production. Jack described the project as “very much been a labour of love,” and said he is excited for people to eventually see it.
The film itself has been in the works for years. A biopic about Ozzy was first announced in 2021, with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lee Hall attached to write the script. At the time, PolyGram Entertainment said it was in negotiations with a director, but no formal directing announcement followed.
More recently, Jack said in January 2026 that a “phenomenal actor” had already been chosen to play Ozzy, though he declined to reveal the name. He also said the script was being rewritten, while Hall remained involved with the project.
Jack’s update comes after a difficult period for the Osbourne family. Ozzy died in July 2025 at age 76, less than two weeks after his farewell performance, Back To The Beginning, at Villa Park in Birmingham. That concert reunited the original Black Sabbath lineup on stage for the first time since 2005.
Since Ozzy’s death, the family’s focus has also turned to preserving his legacy in multiple formats. His autobiography Last Rites was published posthumously last year, and the documentaries No Escape From Now and Coming Home were also released in the months that followed.
Jack, who has described himself as the “least qualified” person involved in the project, said he acts as the middleman between the film team and the family. He explained that people keep coming to him with questions for Sharon or for the producers, and said he is enjoying learning the process as it moves forward.
For now, the key takeaway is simple: the Ozzy biopic is not dead, it is still in motion, and the script is already in place. The wait may stretch to 2028, but Jack Osbourne says the film is happening.
