About James Daniel Sundquist’s Mother

Eva Sundquist

James Daniel’s father, Jimi Hendrix, crossed paths with his mother, Eva Sundquist, back in 1968.

Eva, a Swedish woman, caught Jimi’s attention while he was touring with his band in Stockholm, Sweden, her hometown. Their first encounter happened on a local tram ride, which marked the beginning of their connection. Even after Jimi’s tour ended and he left Sweden, they managed to keep in touch.

This was around nine months after his mother, Eva, and Jimi had a relationship, which, according to the Swedish judges, included ‘two complete intercourses.’ Eva informed Jimi about her pregnancy and the birth of their son. Jimi promised that when he returned to Stockholm in 1970, he would meet his child.

However, fate took a different turn, and Jimi tragically passed away before that meeting could happen. So, even though James Daniel never got to meet his father. However, he did have the opportunity to meet his grandfather, James Allen Hendrix.

Following Jimi’s death in 1970, his grandfather, James Allen Hendrix, also known as Al, inherited Jimi’s considerable fortune, leaving out other family members. Interestingly, the fact that Jimi had a child, even though out of wedlock, didn’t sway Al’s decision.

Left Out of His Father’s Will

With a paternity judgment backed by Swedish courts, Hendrix Jr. set out to claim his rightful share of Hendrix’s highly disputed estate, which was estimated to be worth at least $30 million – though possibly much more. As a result, James Daniel sued his own grandfather, alleging that he had been unfairly left out of his father’s will.

James Daniel Sundquist filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court, asserting that he should rightfully inherit his father’s fortune rather than his grandfather. This legal battle extended over a considerable period due to the court’s recognition of James Daniel as Jimi’s son, even though no paternity tests were conducted to confirm this.

In his own words, James Daniel Sundquist says, ‘I’m not angry with Al. I just feel I’ve been treated unfairly. I want people to know that I am not a fake.’ Even though no blood sample from Jimi Hendrix was available, a legal declaration in 1975 confirmed Hendrix Jr. as Jimi’s son. In the present day, modern DNA testing methods could provide conclusive evidence of paternity, but this would involve exhuming Jimi Hendrix’s remains. James Daniel Sundquist acknowledges the unsettling thought of such an action but emphasizes that it might be necessary to establish the truth.

James Daniel Sundquist’s Father’s Passing

Details surrounding Jimi Hendrix’s final day and his subsequent passing remain a topic of debate. On the day of his death, James Daniel’s father was in the company of his girlfriend at the time, Monika Danneman, a German champion skater, who was the sole witness to his final hours.

According to Monika’s account, they shared a meal around 11 p.m. at her apartment in the Samarkand Hotel in London. Later, around 1:45 a.m., she dropped him off at a friend’s house for approximately an hour before picking him up and returning to her flat at 3 a.m. They engaged in conversation until around 7 a.m., after which they went to sleep.

On the morning of September 18, 1970, Dannemann woke up at approximately 11 a.m. to find Hendrix unconscious and unresponsive, though still breathing. She called for an ambulance at 11:18 a.m., and it arrived just nine minutes later.

Paramedics rushed Hendrix to St Mary Abbot’s Hospital, where Dr. John Bannister declared him dead at 12:45 p.m. on that same day.

According to Monika Dannemann’s claims, Jimi may have ingested up to nine tablets of Vesparax sleeping pills, which she had given him because he had been struggling to sleep for days.

However, both the police and Jimi’s ex-girlfriend, Kathy, who had extensively studied and researched the case, pointed out numerous inconsistencies in Monika’s narrative. The official autopsy report say that James Daniel Sundquist’s father died from inhaling his own vomit, resulting in asphyxiation while under the influence of barbiturates.

James Daniel revealed that he had always felt like a woman trapped in a man’s body and had come to accept this realization in his later years.

During an interview, James Daniel’s mother, Eva, mentioned that the decision was not an easy one, especially since the approach they took was still considered unconventional in Sweden, despite the more accepting views prevailing in the Western world.
