Certain newspapers may begin this post with a phrase about how much of a father-son rock duo Coldplay and Neil Young are. However, it is both a genre and a criticizing label that I can not get. For the first point, a sizable portion of the world’s population are fathers, giving it a broad scope. While listening to Neil Young’s Harvest, the song unexpectedly took shape after this amusing event in the studio.

Ultimately, Neil Young is a superb songsmith with some of the finest songs ever penned to his credit and a legion of celebrity fans. You can say anything you want about Coldplay. Still, there is no denying that everyone enjoys at least one of their songs.

As a result, it’s no surprise that when the two forces collided, it resulted in a massive hit. In a Rolling Stone interview, Chris Martin of Coldplay emphasized Neil Young’s crucial role in crafting “Yellow.”

“I had this guitar tuned in some strange way to play another song called ‘Shiver,’ which was supposed to be our big hit single,” Martin went on to say. “And we were recording it in Wales.” What frightens me is that it was entirely accidental. While I was waiting, our producer, Ken, was remarking on how gorgeous the stars were outside. And then, while waiting for a guitar take, I was goofing around. I sang, “Look at the stars, they shine for you, they were all yellow.”

Martin went on to tell Howard Stern that Young almost mystically translated himself onto the song’s barebones beginning. “I was thinking about Neil Young and starting to do a Neil Young impression just to try and make everyone giggle,” Martin recalled.
