After nearly two decades of rumors, delays and fan speculation, the long-shelved album Look Outside Your Window is officially coming out in April 2026, but with a twist: it won’t be credited as a Slipknot record. The project — recorded during the band’s 2008 sessions for All Hope Is Gone — will instead be released under its own name, highlighting its experimental nature and separation from the group’s usual heavy metal sound.
According to multiple confirmations, Look Outside Your Window will be issued as part of Record Store Day 2026 on April 18, arriving on vinyl with a special pressing that celebrates its long, mythic history among fans who’ve waited years to hear it.
A Project Born Far Outside Slipknot’s Core Sound
Unlike any typical Slipknot release, the music on Look Outside Your Window was conceived and recorded during downtime in the All Hope Is Gone era by vocalist Corey Taylor, guitarist Jim Root, percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan and turntablist Sid Wilson. The sessions were deliberately exploratory, with the four members branching off from the main band’s heavier approach to pursue more melodic, experimental ideas that didn’t fit the aggressive metal Slipknot was known for.
In statements accompanying the announcement, the group described the creative mindset behind the project as freeform and instinctual. The songs were crafted in an atmosphere where “there were no rules,” and sonic ideas ranged from drum loops and organ fragments to abstract textures and even ambient field sounds — a stark contrast to Slipknot’s trademark intensity.
Not a Slipknot Album — By Design
Despite the involvement of four core members, the album will not be released under the Slipknot name, a decision intended to reflect its unique identity. Rather than forcing it into the band’s catalogue, the music will stand on its own as a separate creative statement. This distinguishes Look Outside Your Window from any official Slipknot release and underscores its experimental origins.
The Record Store Day edition is expected to be a collectible item, with a limited vinyl run that includes special color splatter and packaging details. It’s currently not clear whether the album will be released digitally or on other formats after the initial pressing.

A Mythic Project Comes to Life
For years, the album has occupied near-legendary status among Slipknot fans, often teased but never delivered. Members like Clown have repeatedly assured listeners that a release was imminent, with plans shifting from 2019 through 2020 and beyond. Its eventual arrival in 2026 brings closure to one of the band’s longest-running mysteries and offers a glimpse into a creative chapter that was once thought lost to time.
While purists may be surprised by its departure from Slipknot’s heavy roots, Look Outside Your Window promises to reveal a more experimental side of the band’s artistic range — a side that was always there but rarely heard.
