Yes Guitarist Steve Howe to Release Exclusive 10-Inch Vinyl Covering Bob Dylan Classics

Yes guitarist Steve Howe is preparing to release a limited edition white vinyl 10-inch EP, titled Signals Crossed, containing three previously unreleased interpretations of Bob Dylan songs.

This release follows his recent reissue of his 1999 album Portraits of Bob Dylan. Signals Crossed is scheduled for December 5, 2025 via Howe’s own HoweSounds label.

The EP includes Dylan tracks: “I Want You,” “One Too Many Mornings,” and “Mama, You’ve Been On My Mind.” Howe says he recorded “I Want You” even before starting work on the reissued Portraits tracks, and that the other two were alternative versions in different styles.

Of note, Howe explains that his version of “One Too Many Mornings” here is given an electric setting, drawing influence from Dylan’s Hard Rain performances. Regarding “Mama, You’ve Been On My Mind,” he says the original rendition was slow and mournful; this new version carries a more upbeat, optimistic flavor.

Guest contributors on the EP include Geoff Downes, Dylan Howe, Stephanie Sounds, and Paul K Joyce.

Signals Crossed will be pressed as a one-sided white vinyl with a mirror-backed finish, limited to 500 copies worldwide. A digital download version will also be offered.

Howe comments, “The Portraits… idea was always a sort of pipe dream… What I loved about it was having the chance to arrange them as I wasn’t going to copy what Dylan had done; I wanted to bring a little bit more to it.”

He also explains that his recordings in Signals Crossed reflect songs about “getting your signals crossed,” a theme he explored in the original Portraits.

The original Portraits of Bob Dylan album (1999) featured Howe with his son Dylan Howe on drums, plus guest appearances including Yes bandmates Jon Anderson and Geoff Downes.

For collectors and fans alike, Signals Crossed offers a rare blend: Dylan’s songwriting through the prism of Howe’s progressive sensibility. If you want to own one of the 500 vinyl copies, keep an eye on the preorder.
