Slipknot turntablist Sid Wilson has paid a heartfelt tribute to late drummer Joey Jordison, reflecting on his legacy and influence more than four years after his passing in 2021.
Speaking in a new interview, Wilson didn’t hold back his admiration for Jordison’s musicianship, calling him “the best that ever did it” on his instrument. He recalled how even the biggest names in rock and metal recognized Jordison’s talent, with visiting musicians often stunned by his precision, speed, and creativity behind the drum kit.
Wilson emphasized that Jordison’s skill wasn’t just technical but instinctive, describing how he could hear music once and replicate it flawlessly. According to Wilson, that rare ability set him apart from nearly every drummer of his generation and helped define Slipknot’s early identity and explosive live reputation.
He also reflected on their personal bond, noting that despite lineup changes and the difficult separation from the band in later years, their friendship remained intact. Wilson made it clear that Jordison’s passing in July 2021 left a lasting emotional impact, describing it as one of the harder realities to accept in life.
Jordison, a founding member of Slipknot, was instrumental in shaping the band’s aggressive sound from their earliest demos through their breakthrough albums. His drumming became a defining force in tracks that helped bring Slipknot into global recognition, influencing an entire generation of metal musicians.
Following his death at the age of 46, tributes poured in from across the rock and metal world, with fellow musicians highlighting his unmatched speed, precision, and creativity. Even years later, his legacy continues to be celebrated through performances, documentaries, and ongoing reflections from bandmates and peers.
Wilson’s comments add another deeply personal layer to that legacy, reinforcing Jordison’s place not just as a founding member of Slipknot, but as one of the most influential drummers in modern metal history.
