Serj Tankian and Tom Morello Talk on New Single ‘Adjourn It’: ‘We Have to Learn How to Stand Up to Fascism in the Right Way’

Tom Morello and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian have released a new collaborative single, “Adjourn It,” and both musicians say the song was born from a mix of friendship, family, and political urgency. In a seven-minute video released on June 5, 2026, Morello explained that the track grew out of his long-standing relationship with Tankian, their history of working together, and riffs he borrows from his son Roman Morello.

Roman, who is 15, said he recognized the riff and realized his dad had pulled it from voice memos on his computer. He called it an honor to be part of the project and said the political message came through clearly. Morello added that Roman has been around protest culture since he was very young and that the song’s main riff came from him.

The most pointed part of the video is Morello’s explanation that the song came together during DHS and ICE raids in Los Angeles, when he saw the city being terrorized by what he called “Gestapo-like tactics.” Tankian said the situation disturbed him deeply, cited the trauma of family separations, and argued that the response has to be learning “how to stand up to fascism in the right way.”

The song’s video also uses clips from Salt of the Earth (1954), a classic film about Mexican-American miners fighting labor exploitation, racism, and oppression. The imagery is meant to reinforce the song’s message about solidarity and resistance. Morello’s 2026 touring schedule follows the release, with dates including Sweden Rock Festival on June 4, Rock im Park on June 5, Rock am Ring on June 6, Nova Rock on June 11, Rock for People on June 12, Download on June 14, Graspop on June 18, Hellfest on June 20, Pinkpop on June 21, Newport Folk on July 26, Louder Than Life on September 19, and Power to the People on October 3.
